Light and Life International September 2010 Update

Thanks for keeping George and Carson in your prayers as they traveled from Fernandina to Las Mesas. It took 12 days for them to make the trip of over 3000 miles, but they arrived safe and sound, praise God. A big thanks to everyone that donated supplies, with a special thanks to Baptist Medical Center Nassau for the hospital beds, stretchers, and other equipment, Amelia Internal Medicine for the OBGYN table, Dr. Rick Spencer and Mr. John for the dental chairs, Dr. Todd Garner for the trailer, and Dr. Mike Mahoney and Eastern Shore Urgent Care for the Baby Doppler.

It has been raining frequently in Las Mesas and there has been significant damage on the main road as well as in the surrounding communities. Mudslides and the collapse of roads and buildings are the norm. We have been working with Dr. Camillo, a local physician with a private practice close to our house, to provide assistance to those affected. Dr. Camillo is a strong Christian doctor who has a passion to serve those in his community. We are pleased to announce that we are currently working with Dr. Camillo in moving forward with the clinic and rejoice in his decision to work at the new clinic full time upon its completion. We are spending the month of September working with Dr. Camillo and preparing for upcoming groups in October and beyond.

Prayer Requests

1. Safety and a quick recovery for those affected by the bad weather.

2. Upcoming groups in October- Please pray that God will move in the hearts of those coming to Honduras in October, that he will open their eyes and ears so as to not miss his blessings and instruction,, and that through these groups his will be done

3. Continued progress on the clinic

4. Traveling safety for Gabby and Lourdis as they travel back and forth from La Ceba

Mary and I are doing fine as we finish our time here in the states and prepare to return on the 2nd of October. Please continue to pray for the work. Below is a note from Laura Lynn. It sounds as if God is continuing to do mighty things there. I am thankful for those God has chosen to help there.

"Things are going really well here, school is incredible! 100 kids all learning and growing, we have started the adult adult literacy class and that is going really well. With Kathy's touch the school is looking better and better! We have added another section to the Medica Mamba program, our nurse is going once a week to an orphanage that has about 15 malnourished children there. Our two American teachers are doing incredible things at the school and helping the children's grasp of the English language progress much faster! We are looking for a wheelchair for a young lady who has to scoot on her hands and backside to get around. One really cool thing to see has been the community gathering together to decide they want to turn the area where people dump trash into a community area, so they are cleaning up all the trash and planting flowers and putting up lights, the whole community is working together!"

A Mission Update from Honduras

At the end of July, a joint construction group from North Carolina and Georgia began working on laying the foundations for the new medical clinic. The group did a tremendous job transforming the unused back half of the church into the beginnings of a new medical clinic. The team also spent time in Guamaca at a large children's orphanage and ministered to local children at the Kids Kitchen.

Also, we have had non stop rain and flooding in the entire country. Last night Tegucigalpa suffered from mudslides and 70 homes were lost in one area. Today the news paper reported 10,000 cases of dengue fever (that have been hospitalized) and a few thousand more that haven't been. The government hospital is overflowing with patients and no medicine to treat them with. We continue to battle with a lack of medicine and medical volunteers to help in Honduras. Please keep us and the new medical clinic in your prayers. We have already started the mission schedule for 2011, if you are interested in helping Honduras in 2011 through evangelism, construction or medical/dental teams please email me asap to make sure we don't miss anyone that has the call to come.

Haiti Mission Update

Things are going great. The medical mission is a huge success with hundreds of patients seen with a wide variety of issues. The UN sent a Pakistani doctor over who worked with the three nurses that we had between the two groups that are here.

The construction team (Ronald, Larry, Caleb, Randall and Ryan) have repaired one roof, built a second frame on another house that had no roof and hope to finish it up today.

Tomorrow (Thursday) we make the 4 hour drive back to Port au Prince and see a couple of sites on the way. We fly out Friday at 3pm and get back into Jax about 10:30pm.

God is truly great. He has dispatched angels to keep us going this week. The heat is in the triple digits every day, little shade and little breeze. The 90 or so at night feels really good.

News From Our Mission Team in Haiti

Everything is going well. Randall preached at one church this morning and Larry preached at another. It was awesome. We went out to the feed the kids program and got swamped. The kids are so precious and in so much need it melts your heart.

We've scoped out the house that we are roofing and another that they may ask us to reroof. Small huts, no major construction.

Deborah, Angel and Dee Dee spent the afternoon going through meds to get ready for the clinic in the morning.

Another team from Omaha showed up and have 7 folks that are doing a VBS at the same place we'll be located. There is plenty of need to go around.

Oh yeah..its hot - VERY, VERY HOT here. Loving the fans and drinking plenty of fluids. Heading back to church.

Our Misson Team Leaves for Haiti

Well, we had some excitement in Jacksonville. The letter that Larry had on Caleb was medical, and not approval to leave the country. Plenty of prayer got us through it.

Then, they found Caleb's 6 pack of gatorade and cans of boiled peanuts in his carry on. LOL. You can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy.

We made it to Miami after a bit of a roller coaster ride that had Angel a little green, but we got landed. Then, Emory took us on a grand tour of the Miami airport looking for a place to eat. Should have taken that left turn at gate D35. It's okay, we had plenty of time and needed to stretch our legs. Angel had the goat. I was impressed. It was really chicken but we told her it was goat. She caught on pretty quick.

We picked up Dee Dee Johns from Honduras so we are 8.

Pray God's will be done this week and that the team is safe.

***UPDATE*** Ronald just called and the team made it to Port au Prince. Everyone is fine. They'll spend the night there and travel with Emory to Gonaives in the morning, where they'll be until Thursday. The team will head home on Friday, July 9. They'll keep us updated as they are able to. Please keep the team in your prayers.

Yard Sale Tomorrow at NFBC!

Our Youth will be at the church this evening pricing the items for their yard sale tomorrow. The sale starts at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning on the church lawn, so come on out for a visit and see what we have for sale! Donations are also accepted! All proceeds will go toward our Youth Program at NFBC.

National Day of Prayer

Since 1952, when President Harry Truman signed it into law, the National Day of Prayer has been observed to lift up our nation and its leaders before God. Join with Christians across the country to intercede for America today on the 59th Annual National Day of Prayer.

There will be a local observance of the National Day of Prayer at the Brantley County Courthouse at 12 noon today.

The Easter Egg Hunt was a great time for all! Over 1900 eggs were hidden and there were egg hunts for all ages. Many thanks to Deborah Griner, Susan Hickox and everyone who helped make this year's egg hunt a success!

Our Easter Drama was a big success! We had a great crowd and everyone enjoyed themselves. Due to some internet problems Sunday, we were unable to stream our services, but here are some photos to enjoy. A big thank you to everyone involved, especially Trey Keene, who wrote and directed the play!
